“Go Green” with Mainly Murder Press

Mainly Murder Press is an independent, royalty-paying publisher committed to producing books of top quality. Our writers are carefully chosen for the excellence of their work, and our editing and design processes result in products that are second to none. We are a traditional publisher in every respect except one: the process used to print our books.

The traditional offset printing process has a huge environmental impact: Thousands of copies of each title are printed, then trucked to warehouses, stored, shipped out, received back in if unsold, and ultimately returned to the publisher or trucked to the dump. The negative environmental impact associated with this wasteful process in large part motivated Mainly Murder Press to “go green” with a print-on-demand (POD) publishing model.

Simply put, POD production means that our titles are printed only when orders generate a demand for them. Orders are placed online directly with us (in the case of individual readers or libraries) or via Ingram Distributing (in the case of resellers), then efficiently fulfilled. Our customers benefit from maximum product quality, value and convenience, and the environment benefits from a minimum impact.

To build upon an already solid foundation of environmental stewardship, our printer/distributor is actively pursuing “Chain of Custody” certifications with The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (”SFI”), The Forest Stewardship Council (”FSC”) and The Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (”PEFC”). In the meantime, be assured that no papers used in MMP books are sourced from endangered old growth forests, forests of exceptional conservation value, or the Amazon Basin.

The efficiency of POD printing also generates savings in production, transportation and warehousing costs that we are pleased to pass along to our customers:

Individual readers and libraries ordering from the Mainly Murder Press website receive 20% off the cover price of all titles.
Resellers receive a 40% discount, and there is no minimum order requirement. Although unsold copies are returnable by resellers within 120 days, we encourage resellers to help us “go green” by ordering smaller quantities more frequently rather than ordering and returning larger quantities.
