Shirley S. Allen

Shirley S. Allen was born in Oak Park, Illinois, and graduated from Oak Park High School. She received a B.A. from Carleton College and a Ph.D. in English and Latin from Bryn Mawr.  Married to Archibald W. Allen, a professor of classics at Yale, Colby, and Wesleyan, she brought up three children before becoming a professor of English at the University of Connecticut.  Among her scholarly publications is a book on the stage history of Shakespearean drama. After retiring to California, she became a fiction writer. Her first novel, Roxanna Britton, was published in 2001.


P. I. Barrington and Loni Emmert

California natives and sisters P.I. Barrington and Loni Emmert fell in love with New England during fall vacations in Maine and New Hampshire. Loni has spent the past twenty-five years working in the music industry and writing press releases and magazine articles.  P.I.’s experience includes work as a newspaper journalist, radio air talent, and at a major record company.  P.I.’s first suspense novel, Crucifying Angel, was released in 2009.  They are members of Sisters in Crime and Romance Writers of America.  Each lives in Southern California, and each has a very spoiled dog.  They love to hear from readers at wordmistresses@yahoo.com.


Judith Campbell

Rev. Dr. ‘Judy’ Campbell is an ordained Unitarian Universalist minister and the author of several books and articles. She has published children’s stories and poetry, as well as numerous essays on the arts, religion, and spirituality.

She holds a PhD in The Arts and Religious Studies and a Master of Arts in Fine Arts, and she offers writing workshops and spirituality retreats nationally and internationally.

When she isn’t traveling and teaching, she divides her time between the island of Martha’s Vineyard and Plymouth, Massachusetts. She lives with her husband, best friend and editor par excellence, Chris Stokes, and their two totally indulged felines, Katie and Simon.

James A. Ciullo

James A. Ciullo Jim Ciullo lives in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, where in his previous career, he helped to develop a system of community services for persons with developmental disabilities. When not writing, he works as a consultant and as a volunteer in various community projects. His previous novels include A Tango in Tuscany (2002) and Orinoco (2007), a prequel to Maracaibo, published by Mainly Murder Press. Jessie Crockett

A nearly life-long resident of the Granite State, Jessie naturally adores black flies, 98% humidity, killing frosts in August, and snow banks taller than the average grandmother. When not working on her next murderous adventure, she enthusiastically putters in her greenhouse, designs bento lunches, and throws oversized parties.  She delights in mentoring young writers at the local elementary school. Lesley A. Diehl

Lesley retired from her life as a professor of psychology and reclaimed her country roots by moving to a small cottage in the Butternut River Valley in upstate New York. Michele Drier

Michele Drier was born in Santa Cruz to a pioneer family and is a fifth generation Californian. She’s lived and worked all over the state and has called both Southern and Northern California home. During her career in journalism as a reporter and editor at large at small daily newspapers, she won awards for producing investigative series. She lives in the Central Valley with cats, skunks, opossums and wild turkeys. Edited for Death is her first novel.


Karen Frisch

Karen Frisch has written and illustrated her own stories since childhood when her heroines were Nancy Drew and Lassie. Her short mystery won First Place in the 2007 Writer’s Digest Popular Fiction Awards’ Mystery Category. She is the author of two genealogy books, Unlocking the Secrets in Old Photographs and Creating Junior Genealogists. With a master’s degree in Victorian literature, she taught English and wrote hospital publications before becoming a historic interpreter. Kate George

Kate GeorgeBorn in Northern California, Kate George now lives in rural Vermont.  She shares an old farmhouse with a husband, four kids, three dogs and three cats. She started writing because of a dare and now makes the rascal who dared her read through her rough drafts. Kate earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Davis, and writes about things she has some experience with. John J. Gilmore

John J. Gilmore writes fiction based on offbeat people he meets in his travels.  His characters are very often the invisible people we walk by every day of our lives.  He was born and raised in New York City and now lives with his wife in Stratford, Connecticut.  He spends a great deal of time in Vermont.  His early career was in journalism.  He spent many years as a reporter covering everything from police news to national political campaigns and was an award-winning columnist. Marianna Heusler

Marianna Heusler is the author of over one hundred short stories and five novels, including the first in the Isabella Ripa series. The Night the Penningtons Vanished was nominated for an Edgar. Judith K. Ivie

Judith K. Ivie A lifelong Connecticut resident, Judith K. Ivie has worked in public relations, advertising, sales promotion, the international tradeshow industry, and an assortment of not-for-profit venues. Along the way, Judi produced three nonfiction books, as well as numerous articles and essays. In 2006 Judi broadened her repertoire to include fiction, and the Kate Lawrence mystery series, set in central Connecticut, was launched. Arlene Kay

Stacy JubaArlene Kay spent 20 years as a senior executive with one of those alphabet agencies that strikes terror into the hearts of all Americans. Glenn Nilson

Glenn grew up on a farm in the Sierra Nevada foothills of California, hiking, hunting, even panning for gold. After college, he served as an officer in the Navy, then earned a doctorate in sociology and taught at a branch of the State University in Connecticut. Upon retirement, the West drew him back, this time to New Mexico, the setting for Murder on Route 66. He still revisits the region by motorcycle, camping and visiting old riding buddies. Joy Seymour

J.E. Lane Stone

Lane is a native Atlantan and graduate of Georgia State University. She, her husband, Larry Korb, and the real Abby divide their time between Sugar Hill, GA and Alexandria, VA. Lars Trodson

Lars Trodson was born and raised in Rhode Island, and from as early as he can remember, he wanted to be a writer. He started at his high school paper at Providence Country Day School and worked as a daily newspaper reporter and editor in New England for more than twenty years after college.
